How to Get Rid of an Old Mattress in Philadelphia

A worn-out mattress is one of the most awkward things to get rid of. It is big, it is heavy, and you cannot exactly fold it into a trash bag. If you are staring at an old mattress in Philadelphia, here are your options.

Curbside set-out has rules

Philadelphia does collect some bulk items at the curb, but there are rules about how and when to set them out, and mattresses often need to be wrapped in plastic. Putting one out the wrong way can mean a missed pickup or even a ticket, so check the city’s current bulk-item guidance first.

Donation is limited

Most charities will not accept used mattresses for health and safety reasons, so donating is usually not an option unless the mattress is nearly new and still in its original condition.

Recycling exists, but takes effort

Mattresses can be broken down and recycled, and the foam, steel, and fabric reused. The catch is that you typically have to haul it to a facility that accepts them yourself, which is tough without a truck.

Let us carry it out for you

The simplest option is to let us handle it. We will carry the mattress down the stairs and out of your home, so you never have to wrestle it through a doorway, and we take it to the right place for disposal or recycling. Add a box spring or old bed frame and we will take those too.
